With the objective of keeping Bengaluru city clean, beautiful, and livable, the "Freedom from Waste" campaign is being conducted during August-2026. As per bye-law 18(1)(b) of the Solid Waste Management Bye-laws, 2020, it is the mandatory responsibility of owners to maintain vacant sites in a clean and hygienic condition.
Accordingly, the following directions are issued to the general public with respect to the cleaning of vacant sites:
Bye-law 18(1)(b) of the Solid Waste Management Bye-laws, 2020 places the mandatory responsibility for maintaining vacant sites in a clean and hygienic condition on the owner.
The notice states that the Municipal Corporation will undertake removal of the waste itself, and that the expenditure incurred will be recovered as shown in the table below from property owners along with property tax. The recovery is made under bye-law 18(1)(d)(ii) of the Solid Waste Management Bye-laws, 2020 and Section 285(2) of the Greater Bengaluru Administration Act, 2024.
This is not a fine. It is the Corporation's cost of doing the work, recovered through your property tax.
